ANNOUNCEMENT Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation Solo Ice Dance Skaters, Coaches and Officials Seminar in Partnership with KrigorStudio and Alpha X Sports in conjunction with the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Baku, Azerbaijan Date and Location: The Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation in partnership with KrigorStudio and Alpha X Sports will conduct a Solo Ice Dance Seminar from September 27 to 28, 2025 in Baku, Azerbaijan, held at the Heydar Aliyev Sport Complex. Purpose: To create interest in Solo Dance in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East regions by offering an introduction to skaters and coaches, as well as judges, and include technical panel education and training. Azerbaijan is a safe and accommodating location to educate skaters and skating professionals from these regions and holding it in conjunction with the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2025 will also allow for officials already in the country to remain and receive training. Moderators and Program: John Millier (ISU Technical Controller) and Kristen Fraser-Lukanin (ISU Technical Specialist and KrigorStudio coach) are both the current co-chairs of the ISU Solo Dance working group and have been invited to act as the moderators for the seminar. Preliminary Program is the following: Day 1 - Saturday, September 27th 2025, in classroom presentations from 10:00AM to 6:00PM with several breaks, including one for lunch. ● Introduction to Solo Ice Dance – “What is it and How is it Different from Couples?” ● What is required to host an International Solo Ice Dance Event? ● Where is Solo Ice Dance Headed? ● 2025-26 Requirements for each level. 1 ● In-depth education on the following elements with an emphasis on how to determine a Grade of Execution (GOE) and how levels are achieved. o DanceSpins o EdgeElements o SoloTwizzles o StepSequences o ChoreographicElements ● Program Components discussion: Composition, Presentation, Skating skills utilizing video examples for practical experience in evaluating Solo Ice Dance. Broadway's Matt Wiercinski leads a Musical Theatre class at Montclair State University Ice Arena every Tuesday at 8:05am. Matt grew up in Totowa NJ and always had an urge to perform. Starting dance at the age of 7, Matt didn’t quite like it at first. Within a few weeks of his first jazz class he fell in love with dance. He started to train at For Dancers Only at the age of 10, then did competition dance throughout high school. Growing up dance was not the easiest for him, but he trained harder every day, and pushed himself to improve. Matt has trained in ballet, jazz, musical theater, street styles, contemporary, and modern. Matt has performed in the opening number for Broadway Cares, “Gypsy of the Year Competition 2015” and can currently be seen in The Great Gatsby. Matt is inspired by performers such as Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, and hopes to inspire others just as they have.
