Which side to wear a medical mask and how to wear it correctly?

Medical masks have become one of the symbols of the last few months. However, many people still wear them incorrectly. Based on the advice of the World Health Organization, we will tell you how to protect yourself and others from the spread of infection.

When should you wear masks?

The World Health Organization (WHO) website states:

If COVID-19 is spreading in your community, stay safe by taking some simple precautions, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue. Check local advice where you live and work. Do it all!

Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people.

Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission and save lives; the use of a mask alone is not sufficient to provide an adequate level of protection against COVID-19

Here are the basics of how to wear a mask:

  • Clean your hands before you put your mask on, as well as before and after you take it off.

  • Make sure it covers both your nose, mouth and chin.

How to put on, use, take off and dispose of a mask?

The rules for using protective medical masks are simple:

  1. Before putting on a mask, wash hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water

  2. Position the mask with the metal clip or tight insert facing up.

  3. The outside of the mask is usually painted. Place it away from you.

  4. Bend the metal insert or clip to the shape of your nose.

  5. Cover your nose, mouth, chin with a mask.

  6. Put on the mask so that it covers your nose and mouth with no gaps between your face and mask.

  7. Do not touch the mask during use; treat hands if touched.

  8. As soon as the mask gets damp, replace it with a new one.

  9. Do not reuse disposable masks.

  10. Remove the mask by holding the elastic bands at the back (without touching the front of the mask) and discard it immediately. Then treat your hands (wash hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water).

  11. Also, do not leave used masks in the public domain, and do not remove masks to say hello or talk to someone.
